I am so delighted with this album!
I loved the writing process - both thinking through what we (as a
church family here in Northern Ireland) needed to be singing about;
and working with some of the people I respect most as worship leaders
and writers - my Mum, Paul Baloche, Brian Doerksen, & Tre and Tori
Sheppard - it's been such a rich journey thanks to them!
I've loved the challenge of taking concepts that I find hard to
articulate (issues like the Kingdom of God; how to live out justice
to the poor...), and wrestling them through until I have a grasp on
them that I can live my life by - and words that I can put into songs
others can take and use in their own worship. It always feels so
difficult at the beginning - and yet, so rewarding at the end of the
process.
I so hope ...

For such a long time I've wanted to write a song that 'explains and expresses' the Kingdom of God. I remember learning about it for the first time at Bible College (rather a few moons ago now!!:) I'd heard about the Kingdom all my life - but I thought it was just a synonymous term for the 'church'. We were taught that the kingdom was 'the dynamic rule and reign of God' active among us - and as I talked over what that really meant with Alan (now my husband) - the penny slowly started to drop. The church gets to express the Kingdom - gets to live it out - gets to invite it in - through the choices people make. But, the church itself is not the Kingdom. The Kingdom can be seen everywhere a life is changed - every time someone is healed; every time someone is set free from any of the effects ...

There are times when the only thing you can do is stop and say thank
you again. At those times, it doesn't matter how hard life is. At
those times, it doesn't matter where you have 'won' and where you
still have the taste of failure in your mouth. At those times, all
you can see on the horizon of your soul, is the wonderful love of
Jesus - His indescribably mercy - His tenacious grace.
There is nothing more breath taking; more life giving than stopping
to remember again what He has done for us. There is nothing that
leaves us more aware that we simply have nothing to offer that will
ever come close to repaying, or adequately saying thank you for
that. I love that feeling - it reminds me again, that the awesome
King of Heaven - who is SO much bigger than me - who is SO far beyond
the circumstances I find myself in - is on m ...

This was another song that I got to co write with some great friends!
Just before I flew over to Nashville to record, I got together with
Tre and Tori Sheppard - who head up the band 'One Hundred Hours' (and
who also live happen to live in my home town!) - to see if we could
write something.
It is so fun to 'decide' to write - and then spend some time on it to
see what comes out. It is true that we need to be inspired to write
- but sometimes the inspiration comes when we set the time aside -
rather than the other way around.
'Love rescue me' was the song that came together that night - and I'm
so grateful.

God loves justice, and he is unswervingly merciful. That is an
incredible combination! When it comes to the poor, He is
passionately present - consistently committed. He never leaves the
poor. He always defends; always dwells with those who find
themselves on the outside - and He demands that we pay attention to
the same.
Worship without care for those the Lord is passionate about, doesn't
get past the ceiling! I don't want my worship to be like that. I
long for my life to sing louder than any song I ever lead or write.
And that's what this song is about - it's about remembering that
intimacy with God goes hand in hand with justice for the poor - that
the 'narrow way' isn't only an expression of a personal relationship
with Jesus, it has to be outward focussed as well for it to be
authentic. I don't know abou ...

The cross is what it's all about! Nothing speaks louder of God's
mercy than the cross - and no where else to do we find a 'way in' to
know God! How amazing!!!
I love writing about the cross - and I love having the opportunity to
say thank you again for the sacrifice Jesus paid for me - I don't
think we'll ever be done with that!
Brian Doerksen has been a mentor to me for the last 10 years - I'm so
grateful for the way the Lord gives us people along the way who shape
the way we think, and unlock the gifts inside us - Brian has been one
of those people to me! SO, it was such a treat to be able to write
this song with him.
I'd started the song - but I was stuck (you will by now know, that
this happens to me quite often :) Brian helped me finish the lyrics,
and wrote the pre chorus. I lo ...

Here's something that takes my breath away over and over. Sometimes we can miss the full impact of the truth in the scripture that ' nothing can separate us from the love of God' simply because we've heard it for so long. And yet, the reality of those words are totally life changing! When we start to hear that verse squarely aimed at us - that nothing we have done; nothing that has happening in our past; nothing that we've thought or acted on when we shouldn't have; nothing seen or hidden; nothing can disqualify us from God's incredible love - all of a sudden our hearts are set free to live fully free again! When we start to allow that truth to take root inside us - we move into the wo ...

We have such an amazingly rich heritage when it comes to songs that
have been used for generations before us! Some of the songs that
move and inspire me the most are one's that I've known since I was
just a little girl - songs that my Mum, and her Mum before her sang
when they were just growing up too! There is something wonderful
about using the same words that others have used before us to respond
to the same, vibrant, marvellous God who loves me just the same as He
loved them. What incredible 'rootedness'!!!
The reason I wanted to record 'What a friend we have in Jesus' was
because it was my Granny's favourite hymn. When she died in 2004, we
sang this at the little service held in her house. Ever since that
time, it has held a more precious place in my heart than before. I
loved how my Granny loved Jesus - it was very d ...

Every so often, I love writing a song that isn't necessarily a
worship song - but a song that helps connect our pain with God's
grace - maybe helping to unlock something for people as they work
through the stuff that life has thrown their way.
We've been involved in pastoral work for almost 12 years, and over
the course of that time, we've encountered so many who just needed
reminded that the grace God offers really is enough to cover every
stain; every hurt; every issue. They've needed the whisper of hope
again that comes from realising God's grace isn't a 'concept' - but
rather, a deeply personal, heart healing reality that God himself is
waiting in the wings to wrap around them.
I love that 'just one touch' can make us clean - that the King of
heaven is more than willing to touch us in our brokenness - He i ...
